The following is the text of Ruhamah Sencabaugh's will, dated 9 July 1824. The will was not proved until 1850. Book 5, Folio 108.
In the Name of God, Amen
I, Ruhemmy Sencebaugh of Murray Harbour Prince Edward Island being but weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God calling into mind the Mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all Men Once to die do make and Ordain this my last Will and testament that is to say Principally and first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and My Body I Recommend to the Earth to be buried in a deacent Christian Burial at the discretion of My Executor Nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God and as touching such worldly Estate werewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I Give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form first I give and bequeath unto Benjamin my fourth Son My fifty Acres of Land Adjoining to the land of Mr. Tho~. de Jersey on One Side and the land given by my Husband to my son Tho~. on the other together with my Household furniture beds and bedclothes Books and farming utensils provided he takes deacent and proper care of the younger branches of the family until my youngest Child is sixteen years of age then to become his Own private property by him to be posessed and Enjoyed Whome I likewise make Constitute and Ordain my sole Executor to this my last will and testament Secondly I Give and bequeath to my two daughters Elizabeth and Maryann Equally between them all my wearing Apparrel, and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disanul all and every Other testaments Wills Legacies bequests and Executors by me in any wise before Named willed and bequeathed Ratifying and Confirming this and no Other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Ninth day of July in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and twenty four.
