The Last Will and Testament of Michael May, (1815-1885, Springfield)

In the name of God Amen. I, Michael May, of Township Number 67 in Queens County, Province of Prince Edward Island, Farmer, being of sound disposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament.

First, I recommend my soul to the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and I desire that my body be buried at the direction of my executrix hereinafter mentioned and that all my just debts be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as may be convenient.

Second, I give, devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary May, all and singular, my real and personal estate wherever situate in the said Province. To hold the same and every part thereof for her own sole use and benefit during her lifetime. And I give her full power and right to bequeath the whole or any part of my said personal or real estate by will at her death to all or any of my children of whom she is the mother, according as she may choose or desire to do so.

And I direct that any of my children now living with me that will stay and live with my wife as they have done with me. That she will provide for them food and clothing according to her ability as long as they assist and obey her in what she requires of them, but, in case that she does not need their assistance or that they would prefer leaving her and earn for themselves a living other where, that they should have full and free liberty to leave. And, whereas, I have by my former wife the following named children, that is, Ellen May, Johanna May, Bridget May, Mary May and Michael May, all of whom I have provided for, as far as I can afford to do, with the exception that I now bequeath to each of them the sum of twenty-five cents, the same to be paid by my executrix as soon as convenient to her after my decease.

I ordain and appoint my beloved wife Mary May, as executrix of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke and make void all former will or wills by me at any time, heretofore made, and do declare this as my last will and testament.

In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal, in the presence of the witnesses named below the fifteenth day of December I the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.
