The Last Will and Testament of John McKay (1788-1854, Lot 18)

In the name of God Amen.
The seventeenth day of September, one thousand Eight Hundred & Fifty Two.
I John McKay Farmer of Lot or Township Eighteen Prince County Prince Edward Island – being very sick and weak of Body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be unto God; therefor calling in mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will & testament; that is to say, principally and first of all I give & recommend my Soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it and my Body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial nothing doubting but at the general resurection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First – I give & bequeath to Archibald McKay my beloved son my Farm containing one hundred Acres of land with House, Barn, & other Building, and Moveables, Horses, Black cattle, Sheep, Pigs, & excepting certain things herein specified on condition that he support & maintain in a decent manner to the end of her days, his Aged Mother, Flora my dearly beloved wife.
Also I give to my beloved Son Lauchlin McKay one mare foal now five months old the same to be delivered to him by my Son Archibald McKay in the month of September 1855. Also to my beloved Son Malcolm McKay one cow three years old, to be delivered to him in the month of November next ensuing – also to my beloved son Alexander one cow to be delivered to him in the month of November next ensuing – hereby appoint Benjamin Thompson Senr of Darnley to Act as the sole Executor of this my Last Will and testament – And I do hereby revoke disannull & disallow all and every other former testament, wills, Legacies, bequests in any way willed and bequeathed - in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
