Last Will and Testament of John Gillis Jr. born Barra, Scotland about 1790 Died 1854, Lot 19, PEI.
In the name of God Amen. The fifth day of November Eight Hundred and Sixty Three. I John Gillis of Barbara Weit in St. Mary's Parish Prince County, farmer being very sick and weak of body and of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, therefore calling unto mind the mortality of the body know that it is appointed unto all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament: that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of God - And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: - First I give and bequeath to my well beloved son Damien Gillis a cow and heifer. Secondly I give and bequesth to Sarah Gillis who lived with me one cow and two sheep. I also give and bequesth to my beloved daughter Mary the spinning wheel which belong to her mother, the said wheel not to be sold and if sold to be brought back.
I also give and bequesth to Joseph Gillis my Grandson our yearling and to Cecily Gillis my Grand-daughter our calf - I also give and bequesth to my dearly beloved daughter Mary Gillis three sheep. Also to my beloved daughter Sarah Gillis one sheep and also to my daughter Ann Gillis one sheep and also to my beloved son Micahel Gillis our sow. It is also my will that my sons Alexander Gillis, Damien Gillis and John Gillis pay the sum of Ten Pounds currency each in equal shares to the clergy for Charitable purposes. I also give to Archilbald Gillis four yards of cloth.
I also give and bequeath to my beloved sons Alexander and John Gillis all my stock, that is to say the remainder of cows, sheep and implements of farming together with ninety six acres of land bounded and described as follows as per lease in my possession with all the appendenances thereunto. I also give and bequeath to my beloved son Roderick Gillis our lamb.
I likewise constitute, make and ordain Roderick Gillis my son, Donald MacLellan Esq. of Indian River and Damien Gillis my son, my sole executors of this my last will and testament - and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannull all and every other forms, testaments, wills, legacies, bequests and executors by me in any way before named, willed and bequeathed testifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have herewith let my hand and seal the day and year above written.
