The Last Will and Testament of George Gallant, (- 1888, Rustico)

The Last Will and Testament of George Gallant, farmer of Rustico, Township No. 24, Queens County, P. E. Island, D. Canada.

In the name of the Father of the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Amen. I George Gallant considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner and form following: (that is to say:)

First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Jane Henrietta Bott Gallant, her heirs and assigns (in lieu of her dowry) with that piece and parcel of land known as my old homestead, together with all domestic animals thereon, I save one horse which I give to my son, Wellington, besides farming implements, household furniture behold to her the said Jane Gallant, her heirs and assigns forever subject to the following conditions:

1. The said Jane Gallant aforesaid shall maintain and educate all the members of my family who are still unmarried. ???? five the ...., should they marry their portions - some cattle, some household goods, according to her means, and as is the custom of the locality.

Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my son Wellington, his heirs and assigns all that piece and parcel of land known as the Buote farm, together with other 25 acres of land adjoining the Buffalo Road, and one

horse to hold to him the said Wellington, his heirs and assigns forever; but he the said Wellington shall be held to pay all indebtedness on the said properties to him bequeathed. Lastly, I order that all my lawful debts, ------ always those on land bequeathed to my son Wellington as above shall be paid off the old homestead. I also order that an amount should by given the church sufficient to have the holy sacrifice of mass offered for the reprise of my soul as many times as my family's good remembrance of me and their duty as good Catholics shall require. I thereby appoint Fedece Doucet, farmer and my son, Wellington, executors this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

In witness whereof, I have herein set my hand the 22nd day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.

The above instrument consisting of one sheet was now here subscribed by
George Gallant, the testator in the presence of each of us; and was at the
same time declared by him to be his last will and testament; and we at his
request sign our names hereto as attesting witnesses in his presence and
in the presence of one another.

This will was proved on the 19th May 1888, on the oath of Domitian Gallant, subscribing witness, as certified by Charles Young, Judge of Probate.
