Know all men by these presents that I, Donald McDonald of Township No. 30 in Prince Edward Island, Farmer, being of delicate health of body, but perfectly sound in mind, and knowing that it is appointed unto all men to die, make this my last will and testament, this fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy four (1874), in the following manner vis.
First of all, I desire that at my death my body shall be decently buried, and wish to dispose of my property as follows. I give and bequeath unto my son Duncan, fifty acres of land with all the buildings and appurtenances thereto belonging situated in Lot 30, and being at present homestead of the family in the Settlement of Argyle Rear.
I give and bequeath unto my son William seventy five acres of land situated at the West River, on said Township, to have and to hold when he, the said William is twenty-one years of age. And I desire that Duncan and William work and help each other until William is of the said age, and then the stock on the old farm or homestead to be equally divided between them.
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Euphemia, one good horse at her own command and also six sheep, and she is to be maintained and decently provided for, on the place on which she now resides, by my son Duncan aforesaid, and should she be at any time ill treated, that she may feel obliged to leave the homestead, she is to receive sixty-five dollars per year from or off the said farm during her life time.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Euphemia, one cow and four sheep to be given to her off the place when she leaves home.
I leave to my son Malcolm, twenty-two dollars to be paid to him at the expiration of ten years.
I give to my son John, and to my daughter Janet, three dollars and twenty four cents each, and to my daughter Catherine, one cow to be given her five years from this date.
I give and bequeath unto my son Donald, one hundred and sixty-two dollars when he becomes of age of twenty one years, to be paid to him by my sons Duncan and William, and further that he be sent as regularly as possible to school during his minority, lastly I give and bequeath to my Grandson Donald A. McFadyen, twenty dollars to be paid off the place to him when he arrives at twenty one years of age, and is also to receive a liberal share of education while living with the family. This Will and Testament I, the said Donald McDonald, do hereby constitute, ordain, and sign.
