1. John (sic Runnals) Reynolds, b. before 1796.
The 1841 Census for Prince Edward Island shows the John Reynolds family as residing in Lot 61. It shows the family as consisting of one male and one female between 45 and 60 years of age (John and his wife Elizabeth), 1 male between 16 and 45 years of age (David Crandall), and one male and one female under 16 years of age (unidentified). John, Hannah and Ann had married by this point and were no longer part of the household. It also shows the family as occupying 50 acres of land in the 11th year of a 999 year lease. This would put their arrival on P.E.I. as being somewhere around 1830.
He married Elizabeth Wolfe, b. before 1796.

The 1841 Census for Prince Edward Island shows the John Reynolds family as residing in Lot 61 with John being occupied as a carpenter. The 1860 Census for the United States shows Hannah Hicken age 48 on page 286 in Ward 6, Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts.
She married Thomas Hicken, married September 3, 1831 in Gaspereaux, Kings County, Prince Edward Island, (see note 2) b. March 1809 in England, (son of George Hicken and Phebe Allbut) d. December 7, 1858 in Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts, U.S.A., (see note 3).
Thomas: The 1841 Census for P.E.I. shows the Thomas Hicken family as residing in Lot 61 in the twentieth year of a 999 year lease. It indicates that Thomas was a carpenter and that the family were adherents of the Church of England. The Census shows the household consisting of one male and one female between 16 and 45 years of age (Thomas born in England and Hannah born in one of the British colonies). It also shows three males and one female all under 16 years of age and born on P.E.I. All four children would have been born prior to 1841.
The Thomas Hicken family does not appear in the subsequent 1861 Census. From other records, it can be assumed that the family relocated to Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts some time prior to or around 1854.
Thomas Hicken is noted in the 1854 edition of the "Newburyport Directory" as being a shipwright and residing at 251 Merrimac Street. In the 1858 edition, he is shown as being a ships carpenter and residing at 48 Warren. Hannah is noted in editions of the above directory between 1860 and 1869 and shown as continuing to reside at 48 Warren. She does not appear in subsequent editions and, as a result, it can be assumed that she died circa 1870.

The Cushing Guards were organized in 1775 and in 1852 assumed the name Eighth Massachusetts Regiment - Minute Men of '61 (Cushing Guards). At 4:30 p.m. on April 15, 1861 they received orders to report as soon as possible at headquarters in Boston. At twelve o'clock the next day, in a heavy storm, marched to the depot and took cars for Boston, and on arrival went to Faneuil Hall. (History and Complete Roster of the Massachusetts Regiments. George W. Nason. Smith & McCance - 1910) One of those on the Roster of Company A was Edward F. Hicken of Newburyport.
Edward Hicken, a seaman, enlisted and was mustered as a Private with the First Batallion of the Massachusetts Volunteer Heavy Artillery on February 25, 1862. He was re-enlisted on February 29, 1865 and promoted to the rank of Corporal on April 25, 1865. He mustered out on October 20, 1865.
From 1866 to 1869, the "Newburyport Directory" shows him as being a ships carpenter and a mariner. It also shows him as being a boarder with his widowed mother Hannah at 48 Warren.

The 1860 Census for the United States shows Albert Hicken age 12 on page 286 in Ward 6, Newburyport, Massachusetts.
William A. Hicken, a wool carder, enlisted and was mustered as a Private with the First Batallion of the Massachusetts Volunteer Heavy Artillery on February 9, 1865. He was dishonorably discharged by a General Court Martial on July 28, 1865 with the sentence being approved on August 16, 1865.
From 1866 to 1869, the "Newburyport Directory" shows him as being a wool carder. It also shows him as being a boarder with his widowed mother Hannah at 48 Warren. In 1871, he is shown as being a mariner and boarding at 10 Vernon.

The 1860 United States Census shows John and his wife Hannah as residing in Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts with John being occupied as a ship carpenter. No children are noted.
The 1880 United States Census shows John and his wife Elizabeth as residing in Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts with John being occupied as a ship carpenter. Only three children are shown: Addie M., John C. and Ida L.
His marriage to Elizabeth (Heald) Hale is noted as being his fifth marriage.

He is noted in several editions of the "Newburyport Directory" as being a ships carpenter. In 1864-65, he is shown as residing at 264 Merrimac Street and from 1871 to 1875 at Willow Avenue.
The 1880 Census is unchanged and accounts for all his children. The 1900 Census shows him as being occupied as a carpenter in a car shop. The 1910 Census shows him as living on his own income.

Thomas (a shoemaker) enlisted and was mustered as a Private with the First Batallion of the Massachusetts Volunteer Heavy Artillery on February 25, 1862. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal on March 21, 1863 and to the rank of Sergeant on August 25, 1864. He was discharged on February 27, 1865.
He became a well respected Postmaster in Rowley, Massachusetts. Some of his post office papers and the chair he used in his office have been preserved by his descendants.
He became a citizen of the United States on May 8, 1876. A copy of this document is on file.
The 1870, 1880 and 1910 Census for the United States shows the family as living in Rowley. In 1870, it shows Thomas as being occupied as a shoe maker. In 1880, he is shown as boat maker. In 1910, he is shown as living on his own income.

A few years later he teamed up with a friend, Raulston Graham, and eventually went on to fish his own fleet. Altogether, he fished for 59 years with the help of his son, Gerald, for 26 of those years. During this time he sold his catches to Wendall Graham Ltd.. He retired from fishing in 1992.
Harry and his wife Ella made their home in Cambridge. To provide for his family, when he wasn't fishing, he worked at numerous jobs, on and off the Island. He worked in Toronto, New Glasgow, N.S., and while living in Charlottetown, he worked at M.F. Schurman. Also, in 1962 he and Ella and some of their neighbours would travel together to Sherwood in Charlottetown to work at a cold storage plant on night and day shifts. He scallop fished for a number of years, raked Irish Moss for a time and worked for the Dept. of Highways as a foreman of a road crew for approximately six years. He was also manager of the Mink River Harbour for many years and took pride in any improvements made to the harbour.
He was always very interested in his community and was always willing to give his friends and neighbours a helping hand. He was a member of the Peter's Road Presbyterian Church, the Cambridge Community Hall Committee and was a school trustee for a number of years. He was an AA member of the Montague group for 36 years and was always very appreciative to this organization and its members, especially Tom Carver, for all the help and support he received over the years.
He loved boat racing from an early age; from the time he and his father raced their lobster boat at the Murray Harbour Tea Parties to later, when he would travel to Souris, Lower Montague and Georgetown to race his own boat. He also enjoyed attending hockey games and stock car races.
