The Descendants of Malcolm Ramsay and Mary Shuman
The history of the Ramsay Family in Prince Edward Island is a long one. Malcolm Ramsay�s son�s, Malcolm and Edward, came to PEI aboard the Annabelle in 1770 with their Uncle John Ramsay and their 4 cousins, from Scotland. The Annabelle ran aground on September 27, 1770 at Darnley Point sinking the ship and cargo but with no loss of life. The Ramsay�s settled on Lot 18 (Princeton) and from that time on the Ramsay�s have played an important part in PEI �s history.
It should be noted that the both the Ramsay family and MacArthur family, farmers and members of the Highland (Gaelic speaking) congregation in the parish of Campbelltown, Argyllshire, Scotland, were on the Annabelle. James Lawson article, "The Princeton Pioneers" suggest that Rev. Charles Steward, pastor of their church and father of the ships owners, recruited families from his congregation. With this background, it is then not surprising to see the amount of inter-marrying between the two clans.

1. Malcolm RAMSAY. (Donald Ramsay & Janet M�Kinley) He was born about 1730 in Scotland and was christened on October 11, 1730 in Argyllshire, Scotland. Malcolm married Mary SHUMAN.

Family of Malcolm RAMSAY (1) & Mary SHUMAN
2. Malcolm RAMSAY. Born before 1761 in Scotland. He came to Prince Edward Island on Annabelle with Uncle John Ramsay in 1770. In 1787 when Malcolm was 26, he married Ann MACNEILL, daughter of Malcolm MACNEILL & Elizabeth CAMPBELL. Born in 1767 in Campbelltown, Kintyre, Argllyshire, Scotland. Ann died in Douglastown, Miramichi, Northumberland, New Brunswick on 17 Sep 1843, when she was 76.
They had the following children:

x. Janet (Jennie). Born on 14 Sep 1806 in Indian River, Prince Edward Island. Janet (Jennie) married MACNEILL.

3. Edward RAMSAY. Born in 1761. In 1790 when Edward was 29, he married Flora M'KAY, daughter of John M'KAY & Janet M'KENDRICK.

i. Margaret (Twin). Born in 1791. Margaret died in 1892, she was 101.
ii. Barbara (Twin). Born in 1791. Barbara died on 13 Nov 1858, she was 67.
iii. Neil. Born in 1794. Neil died in 1837, he was 43.
iv. Malcolm. Born in 1796.
v. Archibald. Born in 1797. Archibald died on 14 May 1872, he was 75.
vi. John. Born in 1800.
vii. Janet. Born in 1802. Janet died on 31 Dec 1873, she was 71.

4. Elizabeth RAMSAY. Born on 10 Aug 1788 in Indian River, Prince Edward Island. Elizabeth died in Lot 14, Prince Edward Island on 30 Apr 1868, when she was 79. Both her grand uncle & father came to Prince Edward Island from Scotland in 1770 on the Annabella. Great Uncle name was John Ramsay who came with 6 sons (Dondald, Archibald, Malcom, John, Neil & Angus) & 2 nephews (Malcom her father & her uncle Edward)
On 2 Dec 1819 when Elizabeth was 31, she married Dougald MACARTHUR, son of Alexander P. MACARTHUR & Catherine MACKAY, in Indian River, Prince Edward Island. Born on 22 Aug 1790 in Lot 14, Richmond Bay West, Prince Edward Island. Dougald died in Lot 14, Prince Edward Island on 8 Aug 1862, he was 71. His parents also came to Prince Edward Island from Scotland in 1770 on the Annabella.
They had the following children:

On 20 Jan 1813 when Malcolm was 23, he married Catherine REILLY, daughter of James REILLY & Lily UNK, in Prince Edward Island. Born in 1792 in Indian River, Prince Edward Island. Catherine died in 1837, she was 45.

ii. Magdalene. Born in 1841. Magdalene died on 23 Dec 1905, she was 64. Magdalene married William SINCLAIR. Born in 1867.

v. Mary Ann. Mary Ann died in 1903. In 1860 Mary Ann married Robert CRAIG.
9. Edward RAMSAY. Born on 15 Sep 1808 in Indian River, Prince Edward Island. Edward died before 1843, he was 34. In 1833 when Edward was 24, he married Amelia Emily EASTER, daughter of Isaac EASTER. Born in 1813.

10. Edward MACARTHUR. Born on 14 Apr 1822 in Richmond Bay - Lot 14, Prince County, Prince Edward Island. Edward died on 3 Apr 1892, he was 69. Buried in Old Dock Presbyterian lot 4. Occupation: Farmer mentioned in Hutchinson's Directory in lot 4. Religion: Presbyterian.
On 23 Sep 1848 when Edward was 26, he married Jane HENDERSON, daughter of Thomas HENDERSON & Abigail PATTON. Born in 1827 in Nova Scotia. Jane died on 25 Oct 1902, she was 75. Buried in Old Dock Presbyterian lot 4.

Dougald married Mary MONTGOMERY, daughter of Archibald MONTGOMERY & Mary RAMSAY. Born about 1825 in Port Hill, Prince Edward Island. Mary died in Birch Hill, Lot 14, Prince Edward Island on 2 Feb 1895, she was 70.
They had the following children:
i. Clementine. Born about 1850. Clementine died on 23 Jul 1932, she was 82. In 1911 when Clementine was 61, she married John Lemuel MACLEAN. Born about 1857. John Lemuel died on 16 Jul 1932, he was 75.
ii. Nancy M.. Born about 1854. Nancy M. died in USA on 8 Sep 1919, she was 65.
iii. Lydia. Born about 1856. Lydia died in 1925, she was 69. Lydia married John MACLEAN. Born in 1843 in Lot 14, Prince Edward Island. John died in 1925, he was 82.
iv. John Robert G. Born about 1858. John Robert G died in Birch Hill, Lot 14, Prince Edward Island on 6 Sep 1860, he was 2.
v. Montgomery. Born bet 1856 -1860 in Port Hill, Lot 13, Prince County, Prince Edward Island. Montgomery died in Worcester, MA on 28 Jun 1914, he was 58. Buried in Old Dock Presbyterian. Montgomery first married Mary Ann MACARTHUR, daughter of Edward MACARTHUR (10) & Jane HENDERSON. Born in 1860 in Dock, Lot 4, West Prince County, Prince Edward Island. On 31 Dec 1890 when Montgomery was 34, he second married Lilly Ada FORSYTH, daughter of Hugh FORSYTH & Margaret HENDERSON. Born about 1864 in Alberton, Prince Edward Island. Lilly Ada died on 27 Dec 1891, she was 27.
12. S. John MACARTHUR. Born on 25 Feb 1827 in Birch Hill, Lot 14, Prince Edward Island. S. John died on 3 Nov 1911, he was 84. About 1845 when S. John was 17, he first married Catherine MACGOUGAN (21) , daughter of Donald MACGOUGAN & Nellie RAMSAY (6). Born in 1825. Catherine died on 5 Jun 1860, when she was 35.
They had the following children:
i. Lucy Ann. Born in 1857 in Birch Hill, Lot 14, Prince Edward Island.
ii. Artemis. Born on 22 Oct 1858 in Birch Hill, Lot 14, Prince Edward Island. Artemis died on 22 Jan 1945, he was 86. Artemis married Minnie I. MAYNARD. Born on 13 Oct 1870 in Port Hill, Lot 13, Prince County, Prince Edward Island. Minnie I. died on 2 Sep 1960, she was 89.
On 4 Nov 1863 when S. John was 36, he second married Lucy Ann RAMSAY (22) , daughter of Edward RAMSAY (9) & Amelia Emily EASTER, in Kensington, Prince Edward Island. Born in 1835 in Malpeque, Prince Edward Island. Lucy Ann died in 1885, she was 50.

13. Jeremiah MACARTHUR. Born on 30 Jan 1829 in Arlington, Prince Edward Island. Jeremiah died on 30 Jan 1893, he was 64. On 10 Mar Jeremiah married Ellen DONALD. Born about 1841 in Seaview, Prince Edward Island.

iii. Ezra. Born about25 Jun 1867. Ezra died on 14 Oct 1968, he was 101.

Hannah Lois died in Ottawa, Ontario on 11 May 1932, she was 57. On 10 Feb 1937 when Creelman was 62, he second married Muriel Mabel LEE.

i. Edmund J. Born in 1857 in Arlington, Prince Edward Island. Edmund J died in Hamilton, Lot 18, Prince Edward Island on 29 Dec 1931, he was 74. In 1884 when Edmund J was 27, he first married Eliza Ann RAMSAY. Born in 1854. Eliza Ann died in 1885, she was 31. In 1888 when Edmund J was 31, he second married Priscilla TAYLOR. Born in 1858. Priscilla died in 1937, she was 79.

In 1850 when James was 34, he married Marie (Maria) Ann GARDINER, daughter of Thomas GARDINER & Jane WARREN. Born on 6 Feb 1831 in Chelton, Prince Edward Island. Marie (Maria) Ann died in 1907, she was 75.

On 11 Jul 1847 when Lilly was 30, she second married Neil TAYLOR, son of John TAYLOR & Margaret M'KAY. Born in 1802. Neil died in 1880, when he was 78.

i. Lily. Born in 1856. Lily died in 1940, she was 84.
ii. Priscilla. Born in 1858. Priscilla died on 29 Jul 1937, she was 79.
iii. George Edmund. Born in 1860. George Edmund died in 1943, he was 83.

John MACARTHUR (12) , son of Dougald MACARTHUR & Elizabeth RAMSAY (4). Born on 25 Feb 1827 in Birch Hill, Lot 14, Prince Edward Island. S. John died on 3 Nov 1911, he was 84.

On 4 Jun 1884 when Laura was 21, she married David PROFIT, son of George PROFIT & Mary CHAMPION, in Alberton, Prince Edward Island. Born on 2 Mar 1859 in Tignish, Prince Edward Island. David died in Providence, RI on 4 Dec 1946, he was 87. Occupation: Farmer. Came from northern part of Prince Edward Island. Moved to Worcheter, MA at urging of wife's cousin - Mary Staples to work at Gartner. In 1891 Prince Edward Island Census he is listed with Laura in Lot 4-E1.
