The information on the Morrison Family is an ongoing project and some of the information is yet unproven. This report is meant as a research tool only.
First Generation
1. 1 MORRISON birth date unknown (St. George's Baptismal Record; St. George's Cemetery Records; St. George's Marriage Records; and Witnesses).
The given name of Catherine, Angus and Hugh's father is unknown.
Morrison had the following children:

2. ANGUS2 MORRISON (1) was born in South Uist, Scotland.
Angus was in the Army. He came to Cape Briton in the year 1827, and remained there for one year, where he buried his oldest son, Angus, and in the year 1828 he came to the Island, bringing his youngest son, Neil and daughter, Nancy and his grandson, Archy.
Angus Morrison had the following children:
i. ANGUS3. Angus died 1827 in Cape Briton. Angus was the oldest son.
ii. NEIL. Neil was the youngest son. There is some evidence that Neil #794 and Neil # 2134 is the same person but until proven they will remain as separate entries.

3. CATHERINE2 MORRISON (1 Morrison ) was born in South Uist, Scotland.
She married JOHN MACDONALD. John was born in South Uist, Scotland.

4. HUGH2 MORRISON (1) was born in Stonebridge, South Uist, Scotland 1760.
He married twice. He married NANCY MCCORMACK. Nancy was born in South Uist, Scotland. Nancy died between 1791-1796 in Scotchfort, Queens County, PEI. Nancy died shortly after the birth of her son John.
He married MARGARET CHISHOLM in of Launching. In a 1895 letter written by Hugh's grandson Donald Morrison: "In the year 1790 Hugh and his wife with their family of three daughters emigrated in the company of 50 others from South Uist Outer Hebrides. They took passage on the Ship Queen of Greenock sailing from Tobermory on the tenth day of May." Research has shown that Queen of Greenock did sail from Tobermory, Scotland in 1791.
Research has also shown that in 1790 the ship Jane sailed from Greenock, Scotland with 186 passengers. The passenger list has a Hugh Morrison family listed as follows: Hugh Morrison from Stonebridge, South Uist consisting of 2 adults, and 3 children, I child between 6 1/2 - 8 years, 1 child 4 1/4 - 6 years, and 1 child under 2 years.

5. RODERICK3 MACDONALD (Catherine2 Morrison, 1 Morrison ) was born in South Uist, Scotland c. 1792-1798 (PEI Newspaper). Roderick died 17 Jan 1890 in Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, Kings County, PEI, at 97 years of age (Daily Examiner, PEI). His body was interred 1890 in St. James Cemetery, Georgetown, Kings County, PEI (PEI Newspaper).
He married CHRISTINA MCPHEE in Prince Edward Island, Canada, c. 1823. Christina was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada after 1803. Christina was the daughter of Angus McPhee and Mary McLoud. Christina died in Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, Kings County, PEI.
Roderick immigrated in 1802 to Bay Fortune,PEI (PEI Newspaper). Roderick was a Farmer. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1841,1861,1881 Burnt Point (PEI Census). DAILY EXAMINER January 24, 1890
At Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, on the 17th inst., after a painful illness, which he bore with Christian resignation, Roderick McDonald, aged 98 years. The parents of the deceased emigrated to this province from Uist, Scotland and landed at Bay Fortune when the deceased was ten years of age. He experienced many of the hardships incident to the life of a pioneer, and was the father of a family of twelve children, eleven of whom survive him, together with forty grand-children. His remains were followed to their last resting place by one of the largest funeral processions ever seen in Georgetown. - R.I.P.

Ninety-eight years ago, on the island of South Uist, Invernesshire, Scotland, was born the subject of this sketch, the late Roderick McDonald in the year 1792. He, with his Father, brothers and sisters, emigrated to this Island in the year 1802, when he was ten years old. He lived for a short time in Grand River, whence he removed to Burnt Point , Georgetown Royalty, where he took up land, faced the forest, and began the life of a pioneer, with which life in those days there were many hardships connected. Mr. McDonald was a prosperous farmer. Being of a industrious disposition, he accumulated considerable property and lived in comfortable circumstances. He was the father of twelve children, eleven of whom survive him; also forty-two grandchildren. Personally he was genial, hospitable and considerate; to the sick he was humane and generous. As his life covered almost a century, ninety-eight years - he remembered the time that King's County was one unbroken wilderness, and the ring of the woodman's axe was all that broke it's solitude. He also remembered the time when where it's capital, Georgetown, now stands, was a solid hardwood forest. Indeed he may be called one of the pioneers of Kings County. He was a man of robust constitution, and had a wonderful memory which he retained until the last hours. After three months suffering, which he bore with Christian resignation, he peacefully passed away, fortified by the rites of his church. Surrounded by his family and friends, he breathed his last on the morning of January 17th. As a token of esteem, his remains were followed to St. James cemetery by the largest concourse of people of all denominations seen in that locality for many years.
On 18 November 1828, Roderick applied for a Land Petition in Georgetown Royalty. He stated he was a native of Scotland, 29 years of age, married, and the father of two children.
On this same date Angus McPhee, Catherine McPhee and Roderick McPhee also applied for Land Petitions in Georgetown Royalty.

vii. MARY was born in Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, Kings County, PEI 10 March 1845 (MacDonald Book; and 1901 PEI Census). Her body was interred in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery. She married JOHN MACMILLAN in St. James Church, Georgetown, Kings County, PEI, 7 Jul 1883. John was born in PEI, Canada 5 November 1840 (1901 PEI Census). John died 5 December 1910 at 70 years of age. His body was interred in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery.
She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1881 Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty. She resided in Annandale, Kings County, PEI (1901 PEI Census).

ix. ELLEN was born in Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, Kings County, PEI c. 1847. Ellen died 9 Mar 1920 in San Francisco, California, at 72 years of age (Obit, San Francisco Chronicle). Her body was interred 1920 in Macdonald Plot, Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, CA (Macdonald Family Plot). Ellen immigrated in 1883 to San Francisco, CA. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 1900,1910 San Francisco.

8. NANCY3 MORRISON (Hugh2, 1) was born in South Uist, Scotland c 1783.
She married DONALD MACDONALD (Donald McRovie). Donald was born c 1779. Donald died before 1825 in Little Pond, Kings County, PEI. Nancy's large family was left fatherless before 1825, when the four sons and the widowed mother registered a new lease on land held in Donald's name. In 1845 Widow MacDonald and sons appeared on a map showing a transaction for a neighboring farm. In the 1861 census for John included an entry for a female over age 60, who could be Nancy. In 1865, two sons, Alexander and John were shown as joint owners of the land. Grant of land to Widow Nancy and four sons: Alexander, Ronald, Roderick and John on June 1825, 33-49 and 33-51.

9. PATRICK PETER3 MORRISON (Hugh2, 1) was born in Scotchfort, Queens County, PEI 21 September 1790. Patrick died 21 January 1865 at 74 years of age. His body was interred in St. George's Cemetery, Kings County, PEI (Cemetery Record).
He married MARY MACKELLACK. Mary was born c 1784. Mary died 14 June 1866 at 81 years of age. Her body was interred in St. George's Cemetery, Kings County, PEI (Cemetery Record). Patrick was born 9 days after his family arrived in Scotchfort becoming the first Morrison born in Prince Edward Island.

xi. ANGUS was born 1 October 1840 (1901 PEI Census). He married CATHERINE YORSTON in St. Francis de Sales Church, Kings County, PEI, 16 July 1888 (Marriage Record). Catherine is the daughter of George Yorston and Catherine Currie.
He resided in 1890 in St. George's Parish. He resided in 1891, 1901 Lot 55. Angus has his nephew, Allan Joseph living with him in 1890, 1891 and 1901. It is thought that Allan Joseph is the son of Patrick, Angus' brother.
Fourth Generation
14. JOHN4 MACDONALD (OLD JOHN) (Roderick3, Catherine2 Morrison, 1 Morrison ) was born in PEI 29 Feb 1824 (MacDonald Book). John died 25 February 1920 in Greenvale, Kings County, PEI, at 95 years of age (St. George's Cemetery Records; and MacDonald Book).
He married MARY MORRISON in St. George's Church, Kings County, PEI, 18 January 1858 (Marriage Record). Mary was born in PEI 3 Sep 1836. Mary was the daughter of Neil Morrison and Flora McKinnon. Mary died c 1912 at 75 years of age.
John was a Farmer. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1861 Georgetown, 1881, 1891, 1901 Greenvale. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1890 in St. Mary's Parish, Souris. John was known as John Burnt Point . He was born on the family Homestead, the eldest of 12 children. See Obit.

Joseph died 22 Oct 1908 in Greenvale, Kings County, PEI, at 79 years of age (MacDonald Book; and Ellen's Scrap Kb). His body was interred 1908 in St. Mary's Cemetery, Souris, Kings County, PEI.
He married MARY MCISAAC in PEI, 5 Feb 1861 (Marriage Record; and Master Name Index, Part ll). Mary was born in PEI 1837. Mary was the daughter of Angus McIsaac and Eliza McPhee. Mary died 1 May 1899 in Greenvale, Kings County, PEI, at 61 years of age (MacDonald Book). Her body was interred in St. Mary's Cemetery, Souris, Kings County, PEI.
Joseph was a Farmer. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1861 Georgetown, 1881.1891.1901 Greenvale. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1890 in St. Mary's Parish, Souris. Joseph's will was probated on 16 June 1910. His son in law, John J. McPhee (John Big Joe) of Big Pond was administrator of his estate.

16. JOHN RODERICK4 MACDONALD (YOUNG JOHN) (Roderick3, Catherine2 Morrison, 1 Morrison ) was born in Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, Kings County, PEI 22 May 1835 (Cemetery Records). John died 12 Apr 1908 in Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, Kings County, PEI, at 72 years of age (Cemetery Record). His body was interred 1908 in St. James Cemetery, Georgetown, Kings County, PEI.
He married ELIZABETH MCPHEE in PEI, c. 1872. Elizabeth was born in PEI 1849. Elizabeth died 10 Dec 1900 in Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, Kings County, PEI, at 51 years of age (Cemetery Records). Her body was interred in St. James Cemetery, Georgetown, Kings County, PEI.
John was a Farmer. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1881,1891,1901, Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty. He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1890 in St. James Parish. John R's will was written on 25 November 1906 and was probated on 16 November 1908. The executors of his estate were James McPhee of Burnt Point and his son in law, Neil Daniel Morrison of Launching. John left his property to his son John, five dollars to his daughter Christina Morrison, twenty five dollars to his daughter Annie and five dollars to his son George Howard. As the time John R's will was probated the address of his son George Howard is stated as unknown.

He was listed as a resident in the census report in 1890 in St. James Parish. John was listed in his father's will which was written 20 November 1906. When the will was probated on 11 July 1908, John is deceased.

George's occupation: Ship Captain.

He heard that 300 acres was for sale in Narrows Creek and rowed up the river to look at it. Laughlin decided to buy it and went to Charlottetown by blazed trail to make the purchase. When he returned to Grove Pine, two of his brothers wanted to move also. They decided to divide it by Laughlin having first choice. He took the middle farm, which turned out to be the poorest of the three, and his brothers took the farms on either side.

He married ELIZABETH MACINTYRE. Elizabeth was born c 1816. Elizabeth died 14 February 1903 at 86 years of age. Her body was interred in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery. James was known as James "the Soldier". James' brother, Laughlin, heard that 300 acres was for sale in Narrows Creek and rowed up the river to look at it. Laughlin decided to buy it and went to Charlottetown by blazed trail to make the purchase. When he returned to Grove Pine, two of his brothers also wanted to move. They decided to divide it by Laughlin having first choice. He took the middle farm, which turned out to be the poorest of the three, and his brothers took the farms on either side. They cut the timber and built a schooner on the MacCormack Shore which they loaded with local grain, lumber, etc. and sailed to England. They sold the cargo, vessel and all, in England but before they could leave, James was caught by a press gang and pressed into service in the British Army. His mother in Grove Pine was approached by letter from the British Army to buy his release but the demand was steep and the mother declined. He later was released and returned and became known as James the soldier. He lost the place in Narrows Creek but got another place near Souris. He had a son Alexander known as Alex the Soldier who had a son known as Regie Alex the Soldier who was involved with rum running in the 1930's. Regie also had a schooner.

He married ANN (NANCY) WALKER in St. George's Church, Kings County, PEI, 16 February 1846. Ann was born 9 October 1825. Ann was the daughter of John Walker and Sarah MacDonald. Ann died 9 October 1895 at 70 years of age. Her body was interred in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery. Annie, listed as Head of Household, and her children are in the 1891 census in Lot 56. Widow Ann McDonald's will was written on 15 October 1894 and proved 18 January 1897. She bequeaths her farm to her son Daniel and money to be paid yearly by Daniel to her daughter Eliza. Joseph's will was written on 5 January 1885 and proved on 5 February 1885. He leaves his farms to his wife and son Daniel. His daughter Mary is mentioned as are sons (unnamed) who are away. It has yet to be proven that Joseph is the son of Red Sandy, but evidence points in that direction. Joseph and Nancy are buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery. On the stone with the inscription for Joseph and Nancy is also Captain Alexander MacDonald died 20 January, 1845.

Neil died 31 January 1946 in Launching, Kings County, PEI, at 81 years of age (Obit). Neil Daniel Morrison, of Launching, was an Executor for the estate of John R. (Young John) Macdonald (his father-in-law). He lived in the home he was born in until his death. He was a carpenter and from 1916 - 1946 acted as Undertaker. Pall Bearers at his funeral were: Roderick Morrison, W.A. McKinnon, Angus D. Walker, Stephen McDonald, Louis Fitzpatrick and Alfred Walker. He had a sister, Mrs. Annie Campbell of Pictou, Nova Scotia.

69. NEIL DANIEL5 MORRISON (NEIL DAN) (Archibald4, Neil3 Morrison , Hugh2, 1) was born in Launching, Kings County, PEI 26 July 1864. Neil died 31 January 1946 in Launching, Kings County, PEI, at 81 years of age (Obit).
He married CHRISTINE MACDONALD 7 November 1899. Christine was born in Burnt Point, Georgetown Royalty, Kings County, PEI 5 July 1873 (1901 PEI Census). Christine was the daughter of John Roderick Macdonald(Young John) and Elizabeth McPhee. Christine died 26 January 1928 at 54 years of age.
He resided in 1881, 1891, 1901 Lot 55. He resided in 1890 in St. George's Parish. He was baptized in St. George's Church, Kings County, PEI, 6 August 1864 (Baptismal Record). Neil Daniel Morrison, of Launching, was an Executor for the estate of John R. (Young John) Macdonald (his father-in-law). He lived in the home he was born in until his death. He was a carpenter and from 1916 - 1946 acted as Undertaker. Pall Bearers at his funeral were: Roderick Morrison, W.A. McKinnon, Angus D. Walker, Stephen McDonald, Louis Fitzpatrick and Alfred Walker. He had a sister, Mrs. Annie Campbell of Pictou, Nova Scotia.
