William MITCHELL (1787-1880) and his wife, Mary (died in 1865), emigrated from near Stradbally, Queens [now Laoighis], Ireland, probably on "The Brig" which sailed from Dublin to Charlottetown on July 26, 1823. This may have been the same vessel which brought the Bulgers, Kellys, Kilbrides, Lynchs and others to Lot 11. William and Mary Mitchell resided in Lot 11 for most of their lives after immigrating. They may have lived in the Vernon River area of Lots 49 and 50 for awhile after their arrival on the Island. William was a farmer and by 1861 he and Mary were apparently residing with their daughter, Bridget, and son-in-law, Dennis Kilbride Sr., at Foxley River.

John MITCHELL immigrated with his parents to Prince Edward Island from near Stradbally, Queens, Ireland in 1823. After his marriage to Elizabeth Lynch, they lived in Lot 11. On Sept. 5, 1846, John Mitchell leased 47 acres of Lot 6. But according to Cascumpec Catholic records, when his children were baptized between 1842-1851, they were born in Lot 11. Their next child was born in 1853 in Lot 9. John and Elizabeth in a log cabin on Mitchell's Hill, along Marquis Road, Brae, Lot 9, until 1869, when they sold their 100-acre property to Maurice Dalton and moved elsewhere. When his daughter, Elizabeth, was married in February, 1879, John and Elizabeth were living in Lot 5. This is the last mention of John's wife, Elizabeth. In the 1881 Census, John was a widower, living alone in Lot 6. This the last mention of John. It is possible that he died at this time, for two of his three youngest children were living with their uncle, Martin Lynch, Jr., in 1881. Notes for JAMES MITCHELL:
James was a farmer and a fisherman. He lived on an 80-acre farm in Foxley River, Lot 11. He was a merchant seaman during the time of the schooners. While he was away at sea, his family kept the farm going. On one of his trips, he drowned off the coast of Georgetown, Prince Edward Island, and his body was lost at sea. Mary Jane went to live with her son, James, in Unionvale, Lot 6. Since Mary Jane was Anglican, the children were raised Anglican.

According to the records of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Lot 11, Prince Edward Island, Peter was baptised 11 Dec 1862, ae 1 month. Peter was a house painter at the time of his marriage in 1891, when he gave his age as 23. In the 1900 Census, his birth date is given as Jun 1866. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1885, probably to work at the Brown Paper Co. in Berlin, NH. He moved his family from Berlin to Baileyville sometime between the birth of his son, John, in May, 1906, and the birth of his daughter, Mary in May, 1908. He ran a shop of some kind, perhaps a neighborhood convenience store, and worked for the St. Croix Paper Co.
The Martin Lynch (1828-1916) who served as baptismal sponsor for Mary and Margaret, and who is buried in the Mitchell plot in Baileyville, was Peter's maternal uncle who raised him and his sister, Catherine. Martin, a bachelor, farmed in Lot 5, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, before emigrating to the U.S. c1885.

Dear Mr James,
As I am waiting for people to arrive for this noon's 12 o'clock prayer service I decided to look up the info you requested in our parish books that go back to 1905. We do have a notation of Alice Maude Decker Mitchell's burial here at St. James place in our death registry page 4 between Feb3 1928 and May 1929. There is no exact date listed nor any other info other than that she was buried from St. James Parish.
On page 102 Peter Mitchell's death notice is recorded. It notes he lived on Summit St., the same street the Church rectory is on. He died Mar. 11, 1938 and was buried from St. James Mar. 21, 1938. He was 75. There is no record here of Martin Lynch's burial. Perhaps it was at Immaculate Conception Parish, 17 Calais Ave., Calais 04694.
There are no records of what parish they came from in NH.
There is a notation of the baptism of a Margaret Florence Mitchell, daughter of Peter and Maude baptized Aug. 30, 1910. Sponsors were Martin Lynch and Annie McLaire. She married James McClure here on Apr. 18, 1938.
Also, that of Mary Alice Mitchell, daughter of Peter and Maude, baptized May 29, 1908. Sponsors were Martin Lynch and Alphonsina Nolet.
Finally, there is a death notice for Hazel agatha Mitchell of Summit St. She died at 43 years on Oct. 23, 1938 and was buried from here Oct. 25, 1938. If you wish any certificates for any of these dates please let me know and I'll forward them to you.

Hi, David:
This is very exciting. I wondered why nothing could be found but I guess it was not uncommon for people to summarily change their names or the spelling of their names as in Dean and Deane.
I have read quite a bit but printed it out to read more thoroughly later. I was surprised at the date of Alice Maude since I always thought I remembered eating a meal there when I was quite little. I distinctly remember Hazel at that time because she frightened me by making faces and clawing motions. Of course, according to the records she was dead before I was born. It was probably one of the aunts.

CALAIS - James F. Mitchell, 77, died June 15 at a Calais hospital following a long illness.
He was born July 4, 1893, at Brewer, N.H., the son of Peter and Maude (Decker) Mitchell.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth (Hagerman) Mitchell; two sons, Theodore of Kingston, Mass., and Martin of Saugus, Essex, MAss.; one daughter, Mrs. Carl (Katherine) Merritt of Saugus; one brother, Harold of Cape Elizabeth; three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Elizabeth) Aylward of Milltown, Mrs. Emil (Lucy) Sidenkranz of Wasena, Minn., and Mrs Margaret McClure of Woodland; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 17 at the Everett L. Scott & Son Funeral Home in Calais with the Rev Kenneth Lindsey of St. Anne's Episcopal Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Baring Cemetery.

Hazel Mitchell
Miss Hazel Mitchell died at her home here on Sunday morning. She was born in Berlin, N.H. on June 1, 1895 and was the daughter of the late Peter and Alice Mitchell and came here to live when a small child. She attended the public schools but on account of ill health she was unable to complete her studies. In recent years, being greatly impaired in health, she has been tenderly cared for since the death of her mother by her sister, Mrs. James McClure, Jr. Miss Mitchell is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Harold Aylward and Mrs. James McClure, Jr. of Woodland, Mrs. Gean Gaumont of Belmont, Mass., and Mrs. Emil Sidenkranz of Minnesota and three brothers, James, Melvin and Harold, all of Woodland. Funeral services were held from the St. James Church on Tuesday morning with the Rev. John J. Curran celebrating high mass. Burial was in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery.

I was reading through a obituary of my great great Grandma and saw that she had two brothers one Emil. She was born in Alpena South Dakota to Frank and Amelia Sidenkranz. She was survived at the time by two brothers, Albert Sidenkranz Pine River Minn. and Emil Sidenkranz Wadena Minn. and she was preceded in death by one brother Carl Sidenkranz. I have just started looking into this side so That is all I know for now. I do hope to find
more out later. Oh, and her name was Mary M. Horn.

WOODLAND -- Melvin Mitchell, 57, died last Saturday evening at Machias. He was born at Berlin, N.H., May 30, 1906, son of Peter C. and Maude A. (Decker) Mitchell.
He had been a resident of Woodland most of his life and was assistant paper superintendant of the St. Croix Paper Company.

MADISON & BAILEYVILLE -- Addie M. Mitchell, 73, died March 19, 1981, at Skowhegan. She was born at Baileyville, August 22, 1907, the daughter of William and Mary (King) Dean. She was the widow of John Mitchell and was a member of the Catholic Women's Council of Baileyville.
She is survived by two sons, Melvin J. Mitchell of Baileyville and Dean F.
