The Descendants of Thomas Millar of Perthshire, Scotland
(the Alexander Millar & Janet Crombie family of Bideford, PEI)
When Alexander Millar & Janet Crombie came with most of their family to PEI in the mid 1800's, they would have no idea of how far the family would travel nor how many of them would still be on the island in 2015, living on the same land that was farmed by Alexander 165 years ago. The Millar family has made its mark on island history, and continues contributing to island life with a steadfast pride in it's past. The following is a record to date of the earliest generations of the family as they spread across the globe from Scotland to Australia & North America.
A great deal of the data shown here has been collected from census and other document files, by contact with living relatives and by extensive reading of the wonderful "community" books published in PEI. It is startling what has been found in old scrapbooks and shoeboxes. LGS information is available for most of the older family based in Scotland. Much appreciation is given to a number of fellow researchers for their contribution to this work in progress, especially those who submit their family information to the IR website. It's amazing how we are all interwoven on this little red island.
A wonderful book has also been published by Bev & Wyman Millar of PEI that follows in detail many generations after the 6 shown here and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in this particular island family. "Burntisland to Bideford" is a must read for anyone associated with this line.
