Note re Spelling of Name
In early records, ministers, census takers, etc. spelled our name in a variety of ways. All but one branch of our family (who use �McAfee�) now spell their name as �MacPhee�....for simplicity, this is the spelling used in this document for all other branches.
Note re Date of Emigration
Malcolm MacPhee and Ann MacEachern emigrated from the Isle of Mull, Scotland, sometime after the baptism of their daughter Mary in Scotland on April 5, 1819 and before the birth of their son John in PEI on June 1, 1821. They may have lived first in Lot 65, however they soon settled at Strathgartney, Lot 30, PEI, where their son Duncan was born on February 20, 1829. Please note that the parish of "Kilfinichen & Kilvicheon", in Argyllshire, Scotland is on the Isle of Mull.
1. Malcolm MacPhee was born ca. 1790, Isle of Mull, Argyll, Scotland. Occupation: Farmer. Malcolm married Ann MacEachern on 4-Feb-1812, in Kilfinichen & Kilvicheon, Argyll, Scot. Ann was born ca. 1790 in Scotland. Her occupation: Farmer (1841 census), died PEI, buried: prob. St.Catherine's Pioneer Cemetery. Malcolm died before 1841, Strathgartney, Lot 30, PEI, buried: prob. St.Catherine's Pioneer Cemetery, Lot 65, PEI.
Their son Duncan, my great-grandfather, was born at Strathgartney on Feb. 20, 1829. In the 1841 census, Ann is a widow and farmer at Strathgartney, holding 100 acres of land by verbal agreement for �999 years�. The family was forced to sign a lease to this property in 1843 (back dated to 1838), for just 69 acres, and the terms now were for �61 years or the longest of three lives�, namely John, Angus, and Duncan (the sons). However, just 8 years later, by 1851, they had been banished to Riverdale, Lot 30, PEI.
The story of how our family originally lived at Strathgartney, and was later banished to Riverdale, PEI was passed down through the generations by some family members, and to me by my father, Arthur G. MacPhee. Documents obtained in this family search later proved the validity of these �stories�.

Note: When Angus moved to New Brunswick, the census taker, etc. started spelling their name as "McAfee"......a spelling that continued in this branch.....however, the pronunciation of "MacPhee" was passed down to all generations, and is how it is pronounced today.

Thelma and I first made contact via e-mail in August 1999, as a result of a query she had placed on "The Island Register", and immediately knew from our research that we were �cousins�!
