The following is a major update of our submission in 2006 and includes additional members of the family not known to us in 2006. Although it is not included below, we now have much more documentation supporting our data and this has resulted in some changes to information provided in the original document.
The following is still a work in progress and is the result of research by a number of individuals now too numerous to mention. I would be remiss however in not mentioning Barbara Hayden who got me started and George Sanborn who kept me on the straight and narrow in addition to providing much of the documentation. Our work is being placed here in the hope that others will contribute to it, particularly those who have knowledge of the ancestors of Donald McLeod and Isabella Nicholson and descendants for whom we only have birth dates.

The Descendants of Donald McLeod and Isabella Nicholson
First Generation
1. Donald McLeod was born in 1819 in Scotland, died on 30 Jan 1893 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI, and was buried in Springton Cemetery, Lot 67 PEI. Donald probably emigrated between 1839 and 1841along with several other immigrants from the Isle of Skye to Strathalbane. Strathalbane, or the Scotch Settlement as it was first known, is that area of central PEI consisting of most of Lot 67, the southern part of Lot 22, and pieces of Lots 23, 24, 30 and 31. He acquired 100 acres of land on Anderson Road, Rose Valley in 1844 through a land transfer from Gabriel Wood.
Donald married Isabella Nicholson daughter of Malcolm Nicholson and Flora McQueen on 13 Jan 1847 in Strathalbane, PEI. Isabella was born on 23 Jul 1826 in Peinchorran, Portree, Inverness, Scotland, died on 9 Apr 1901 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI, and was buried in Springton Cemetery, Lot 67 PEI. She emigrated with her parents and several siblings in Jul 1841, likely on the ship the Ocean, arriving in PEI in August 1841.

10 M x. Roderick McLeod was born on 15 May 1863 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI and was baptized on 1 May 1864 in Strathalbane PEI. He attended the Charlottetown Business College, then joined the Whitney Glass Works, Glassboro, New Jersey where he eventually became a Vice President.

+ 13 M xiii. Malcolm J McLeod was born in 1871 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI. From info in newspapers, he left PEI about 1893 and settled in Moose Jaw, SK where he owned a men�s wear store. He sold this business in 1907 and moved to Winnipeg.
Malcolm married Jeannette Marguerite McPherson on 25 Sep 1902 in Boston, Mass..
Second Generation (Children)
2. Catherine McLeod (Donald 1) was born on 12 Dec 1847 in Rose Valley and died after 1911.
Catherine married Charles McArthur on 20 Aug 1878. Charles was born in 1847 in PEI, died on 30 Dec 1894 in Bonshaw Lot30 PEI, and was buried in McArthur Cemetery, Riverdale Lot 65.

16 M ii. John McArthur was born in 1881 in PEI and lived in Bonwell 4 mi. SW of Hunter River and now part of Brookvale (Skye Settlement) - Lot 30
John married Effie Matheson on 24 Jul 1914. She was the daughter of Neil A. Matheson and Margaret McDonald of Rose Valley.
17 F iii. Isabella McArthur was born in 1882 in PEI

3. Flora McLeod (Donald 1) was born on 15 May 1849 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI, died on 29 Apr 1928 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI, and was buried on 29 Apr 1928 in Springton Cemetery, Lot 67 PEI.
Flora married Malcolm S. Matheson on 18 Jan 1870 in PEI. Malcolm was born on 13 Oct 1843 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI, died on 19 Sep 1930 in Abington MA USA, and was buried on 23 Sep 1930 in Springton Cemetary, PEI. Malcolm was a Shoemaker in Breadalbane. He taught the trade to a number of his nephews.

22 M iii. Daniel A. Matheson was born in Jun 1873 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI, died on 4 Jul 1898 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI, and was buried in Springton Cemetery, Lot 67 PEI.
23 M iv. Murdock Samuel Matheson was born on 6 Jun 1874 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI and died in 1960 in British Columbia. He married Flora Martin
24 M v. Alexander Edward Matheson was born on 8 Mar 1877 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI. He moved to Sask in the 1890s and was a clerk at his cousin�s store M.J. MacLeod & Co. from 1898 to 1901 and maybe beyond that date.
He came to Moose Jaw in 1896.
25 F vi. Florence Maria Matheson was born on 8 Jun 1878 in PEI, died on 29 Jan 1880 in PEI, and was buried in Springton Cemetery, Lot 67 PEI.
26 F vii. Florence Maria Matheson was born on 29 Nov 1880 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI, was baptized on 11 Nov 1883 in Strathalbane, and died on 2 Apr 1974 in Chelmsford MA USA.
Florence married John William Bosselman on 1 Mar 1905 in New Hampshire USA.
27 M viii. Daniel Matheson was born in Oct 1884 in PEI, died on 20 May 1885, and was buried in Springton Cemetery, Lot 67 PEI.
28 M ix. John Roderick Matheson was born on 18 Aug 1883 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI and died in 1917 in Killed In Action France. John was living in Wilcox Sask at time of enlistment

29 F x. Cassandra (Cassie) Belle Matheson was born on 8 May 1886 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI and died on 18 Jan 1987 in Lowell, MA.
Cassandra married Hugh Stewart on 27 May 1908 in Hyde Park, Suffolk, MA. Hugh was born on 3 Feb 1882 in Enmore Lot 13 PEI.
30 M xi. Malcolm (Ahio) Matheson was born in 1887 in PEI and died on 20 May 1888 in PEI.
31 M xii. Campbell Matheson was born on 20 Aug 1888 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI and died in 1978.
32 F xiii. Euphemia (Feemie) Christina Matheson was born on 8 Sep 1890, was baptized in Apr 1892 in Strathalbane, died in 1982, and was buried in Summerside Peoples Cemetery Summerside PEI.
Euphemia married Daniel John Macleod, her cousin, son of Malcolm D Macleod and Flora McArthur. Daniel was born on 3 Jun 1880 in Summerside PEI, died in 1957 in Summerside PEI, and was buried in Summerside Peoples Cemetery Summerside PEI.
33 M xiv. Angus Samuel Matheson was born on 26 Aug 1894 in Breadalbane Lot 67 PEI and died in 1917 - Killed In Action WW1 France.

4. Malcolm D Macleod (Donald 1) was born on 1 Jan 1851 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI, was baptized on 1 Apr 1853 in Strathalbane Lot 67 PEI, died on 3 Aug 1937 in Summerside, PEI, and was buried on 6 Aug 1937 in Summerside Peoples Cemetery, Summerside PEI.
Malcolm moved to Victoria West Lot 13 after his marriage but returned to Rose Valley in 1887. He acquired 50 acres in Rose Valley for $400. He sold this land in 1901 and moved to Mount Royal Lot 8.
Malcolm married Flora McArthur on 23 Jul 1879 in PEI, daughter of Alexander Hugh McArthur and Elizabeth Abbott. Flora was born on 2 Jan 1861 in Summerside PEI, died on 26 Mar 1936 in Summerside PEI, and was buried on 28 Mar 1936 in Summerside Peoples Cemetery Summerside PEI.

5. Samuel McLeod (Donald 1) was born on 13 Nov 1852 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI, was baptized on 1 Apr 1853 in Strathalbane, and died on 16 Jan 1928 in Prince Albert Sask..
He learned the shoemaking trade, probably from his Uncle Malcolm Matheson . He moved to Winnipeg in 1881 and was employed as a shoemaker by Dodd & Co. He moved on to Prince Albert, SK and became a land developer.
In 1886 he was elected Mayor. Was a Councillor in 1894 -95. In 1889 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the North West Territories. In 1890 he was appointed to settle the half breed problem. Twenty-five years later he found himself again elected as Mayor, but with a different set of problems. Prince Albert was in a critical financial condition after the failure of the La Colle Falls Power Project. He pledged his own personal resources at the bank to enable the schools to open in 1920. In 1913 he built the Keyhole Castle to be his home - a landmark Heritage Historical Site recognized by the Federal Government.
Samuel married Elizabeth E. Biggar in Feb 1874 in PEI, daughter of John Biggar and Elizabeth Holmes. Elizabeth was born on 10 May 1857 in PEI and died in 1901 in Prince Albert Sask..

Samuel next married Winnifred Biggar in Sep 1902 in Winnipeg MN, daughter of John Biggar and Jane Cole Anderson. Winnifred was born on 22 Sep 1882 in PEI.
6. Alexander Edward McLeod (Donald 1) was born in Oct 1854 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI, was baptized in Jul 1855 in Hartsville Presbyterian Church, died on 19 Jan 1914 in Vancouver, BC, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery Vancouver, BC.
General Notes: After marriage , he lived in Parrsboro NS where he had a men�s wear store. He and his family lived in Wolfeville, NS for a brief period around 1901 but he returned to Parrsboro. He was a town Councillor in 1904 and 1905. He moved to Vancouver about 1912.
Alexander married Cassie Lilia Harris on 2 Nov 1880 in Cumberland County N.S. Cassie was born on 11 May 1860 in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, died in 1940 in Regina, SK, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery Vancouver, BC.

Mabel married Dr. Fred Corbett on 23 Nov 1910 in Parrsboro, NS. Dr. was born on 11 Mar 1870 in Five Islands, NS and died in 1954. They moved to Sask.

11. Donald Daniel McLeod (Donald 1) was born on 24 Aug 1866 in PEI and died on 11 Jul 1931 in Regina Sask..
Donald moved to Prince Albert, SK in 1891 and joined his brother Samuel. He bought the Royal Hotel. In 1894 he moved to Moose Jaw, SK and bought the Aberdeen Hotel. In 1899 he moved to Regina and bought the Windsor Hotel. It was constructed in 1892 but was destroyed by fire in 1906.
After this fire Donald continued to live in Regina and invested heavily in local real estate, and had an insurance business. It was estimated in 1912 that he had 1.5 million dollars in residential real estate. He built 14 buildings in 1912. He was a resident of Regina as of 1924.
He married Annie McKenty, the daughter of John McKenty who came from
County Antrim, Ireland. She was a Roman Catholic. She emigrated to Canada in 1891 with her parents. Donald and Annie had at least three children: Roy, Roderick, and Gladys (ca. 1908 - May 1918. Died at age 10 years, 8 months.

12. Archibald Donald McLeod (Donald 1) was born on 4 Jul 1867 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI, died on 6 May 1901 in Charlottetown PEI, and was buried in Springton Cemetery, Lot 67 PEI. May 6, 1901 Before he was married, Archie moved to Colorado to work in the lead mines. He came back to PEI relatively wealthy.
Archibald married Edith Elizabeth Bolt on 2 Nov 1892 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI. Edith was the daughter of Richard Bolt of Rose Valley. She was born on 20 Feb 1870 in Rustico Rd. PEI, was baptized on 7 Jul 1870 in St John's Anglican Church Milton PEI, died on 5 Jun 1952 in Seattle Wash., and was buried on 7 Jun 1952 in Seattle Wash.. They settled on his father�s farm. His father died in 1893 and willed half the farm to Archie and the other half to Archie�s mother.

Malcolm married Jeannette Marguerite McPherson on 25 Sep 1902 in Boston, Mass. Jeanette was born in 1874 in Lyndale Lot 57 PEI, daughter of Samuel McPherson and Jessie Graham. She moved to Boston about 1888.
Third Generation (Grandchildren)
34. Alexander Edward Macleod (Malcolm D 2, Donald 1) was born on 17 Mar 1882 in Summerside PEI, died on 27 Feb 1947 in Edmonton AB, and was buried on 1 Mar 1947 in Edmonton Municipal Cemetery. He left PEI about 1901 and moved to Moose Jaw, Sask. to work with his Uncle Malcolm J. He moved on to Lloydminster in 1906 and opened his own Men�s clothing store in that city. About 1912 he moved to Edmonton AB
Alexander married Myrtle Hamilton of Lloydminster on 9 Oct 1912 in Edmonton, AB, daughter of Frank Miriam Hamilton and Eliza Jane Burgess. Myrtle was born on 29 Jul 1893 in Calgary, AB, died on 2 Jun 1973 in Calgary, AB, and was buried on 6 Jun 1973 in Edmonton, AB Municipal Cemetery.

Avora married Derrick Cox on 21 Jun 1939 in Vancouver BC. Derrick was born on 10 Mar 1913 in Chapel En Le Frith, England, was baptized in St. Thomas Church, Hyde, England, and died on 11 Aug 1973 in Edmonton, AB.

35. Daniel John Macleod was born on 3 Jun 1880 in Summerside PEI, died in 1957 in Summerside PEI, and was buried in Summerside Peoples Cemetery Summerside PEI.
Daniel married Euphemia (Feemie) Christina Matheson, his cousin, daughter of Malcolm S. Matheson and Flora McLeod. Euphemia was born on 8 Sep 1890, was baptized in Apr 1892 in Strathalbane, died in 1982, and was buried in Summerside Peoples Cemetery Summerside PEI.
39. Frederick A. McLeod (Samuel 2, Donald 1) was born on 5 Apr 1879 in Prince Albert Sask. and died in 1966.
Frederick married Serena Quayle in 1940. Serena was born in Minnesota, USA and died in 1971.
44. Edith Avora McLeod (Alexander Edward 2, Donald 1) was born on 4 Jul 1882 in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, died on 31 Jul 1962 in Glendale California, and was buried in Forst Lawn Memorial Park Glendale CA.
Edith married Richard Eugene Morris on 15 Aug 1908 in Parrsboro Nova Scotia. Richard was born on 23 Sep 1880 in Walton New York and died on 21 Oct 1959 in La Crescentra, California.

56. Daniel Alexander McLeod (Archibald Donald 2, Donald 1) was born on 5 Aug 1893 in Rose Valley Lot 67 PEI and died on 8 Dec 1981 in Bellingham, Wash.
Daniel married Gladys Ruth Wilson on 12 May 1912 in Bellingham, Wash.
