The Descendants of Gilbert MCALDER and Catherine DARRACH

First Generation

1. Gilbert MCALDER was born about 1768. He died Oct 1841.

Gilbert married Catherine DARRACH on 24 Feb 1799 in Colonsay, Argyll, Scotland. Catherine was born about 1776. She died Apr 1844.

They had the following children:

2 M i. Alexander MCALDER was born in Scotland and was christened 26 Feb 1799 in Jura, Argyll, Scotland.

3 M ii. John MCALDER was born in Scotland and was christened 12 Sep 1800 in Jura, Argyll, Scotland.

4 M iii. Peter MCALDER was born in Scotland and was christened 26 Apr 1802 in Jura, Argyll, Scotland.

5 M iv. (Donald?) John MCALDER was born 1804/1805 in Scotland. He died 29 Dec 1884 in Mill Creek, Buctouche, Kent, NB and was buried in Buctouche, Kent, NB.

Note: This is my speculation that Donald == John.

6 F v. Merrion MCALDER was born 26 Aug 1806 in At Sea and was christened 24 Sep 1806 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

7 M vi. Archibald MCALDER was born 13 Oct 1807 in Prince Edward Island, Canada and was baptized 28 Oct 1807 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died 17 Dec 1882 in DeSable, Queens, Prince Edward Island and was buried in Tryon, Queens, Prince Edward Island.

Archibald married Mary CAMPBELL on 10 Apr 1834 in Queens, Prince Edward Island. Mary was born about 1808 in Scotland.

8 F vii. Mary MCALDER was born 3 Sep 1810 in Prince Edward Island, Canada and was christened 17 Sep 1810 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

9 M viii. William MCALDER was born 9 Aug 1812 in Prince Edward Island, Canada and was christened 29 Aug 1812 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

10 M ix. Malcolm MCALDER was born about 1815 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died 26 Apr 1869 in DeSable, Queens, Prince Edward Island.

Malcolm married Katherine MCARTHUR. Katherine was born 1820. She died 1892.

11 M x. Forbes MCALDER was born 19 Nov 1818 in Prince Edward Island, Canada and was christened 19 Feb 1819 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died 9 Aug 1886 in Paisley, Bruce, Ontario.

Note: I believe that Forbes moved to Elderslie Township in Bruce County, Ontario as did some of his cousins from Scotland. This speculation is based on the letter he wrote in 1871 to his cousin and the birthplace of PEI on the 1861 and 1871 censuses.

Forbes married Isabella GILLIES. Isabella was born about 1820 in Scotland.

Speculation for Isabella's maiden name comes from Mrs. Edith Smith, who transcribed a marriage that she found in the index of the "Paisley Advocate" of Isabella's marriage to John Cunningham after the death of Forbes. She wrote:

"Marriage March 1, 1888

Paisley

Mrs. Bell Gillies McCalder married John Cunningham."
