From the Gideon White papers at the Public Archives of Nova Scotia, item #461
Charlotte Town Island St. John Aug 10th 1787
My dear sir,
Since my arrival in this Island I am so delighted with the country in General and particularly with Lot 37, half of which is said to belong to the Heirs of the Late Capt. Barker, that I am extremely solicitous, as well on my own account as on that of Governor Fanning, to purchase Barker's Right. I therefore take the liberty, once more, to Request you to Interest yourself in that business, and to endeavour if possible, on the terms mentioned in my instructions to you to purchase the same for Governor

Fanning. I beg you would have the goodness to write me a few lines to tell me what progrefs you have made in the matter, and say nothing of it to any body else. I have particular reasons for wishing you to write to me only and not to Governor Fanning, on this particular business I will only add that any expence attending the negociation will be cheerfully paid, with the most grateful acknowledgements. My best respects to Mrs. White. God bless you, for I am with great Truth yours sincerely
Robert Gray
