The Descendants of David Lawson and Helen More
David Lawson and Helen More were first recorded on August 30th 1747, when their second child John Lawson was baptized in the Parish of Monzie, Perthshire, Scotland. Their address was shown as Milnchosh which was a farm located north of the Town of Crieff, within the ancient Barony of Callendar and was part of the estates of the Dukes of Perth. Crieff was known for its linen production.
On October 30, 1769, David Lawson entered into an agreement with Sir James Montgomery, Lord Advocate of Scotland, to be a "Grieve or Overseer" in the establishment of a farm to be called Stanhope Farm on Lot 34. "Lawson accordingly went to St. John's Island in 1770 and carried some servants with him from that part of the country where he resided and established a very good farm.."
