He asks a tract of land on both sides of the River Madavacuk, or Indian River to be reserved for the colony for a twelve month, and during that period be given in lots to those brought forward by the promoter. He asks for himself 1000 acres in an "eligible situation" on the river, in order that he may facilitate and open a regular communication through the N. S. Peninsula from Margaree to Bras d'Or, as his object is to colonize rapidly not only upon the river, but also on the lake. He will relinquish his position as physician and clergyman in P. E. I., for the promotion of the colony, where the settlers may make "unfettered exertions....not paralyzed by indolent and monopolizing land proprietors". MCDONALD, MALCOLM:
Petition to Wallace: Petitioner, age 75, emigrated from Scotland to Prince Edward Island in 1790 and in 1810 removed to Cape Breton. He received a lease, and lodged the usual fees with Secretary McKinnon. He did not receive his lease, owing probably to the death and insolvency of McKinnon by which many persons suffered a similar loss. Petitioner, however, settled on this lot and purchased 500-600 acres from Higgins and Bellehache. At subsequent times he sold parts of this land to Robert McIntyre, William Chisholm and Allan McEachern for 45, 110 and 45 respectively. These are now attempting to get grants without paying the purchase price. He asks that these grants be suspended until petitioner has been paid.
Note: Grants to be suspended until situation is investigated.

1837
MCDONALD, DONALD:
