The Descendants of WILLIAM BLACKETT and MARTHA DIANA APPLECROSS/APPLEQUESTI have info on some extended Blackett families and there are still a number of connections and dates in this Blackett tree to be completed, that is part of the challenge and journey in doing a family tree. PLEASE pass along any new info or queries to me at the above Email address or at Cardigan RR#5, PEI, C0A 1G0.The census of 1798 of Prince Edward Island contains the name of William Blackett as head of the household of seven persons in Lot 56, Kings County. The list includes 3 males, one under 16 yrs and two between 16 and 60 years. It also includes 4 females, three of whom are under 16 yrs and one between 16 and 60 years. I assume that William and his wife Martha were the parents of 3 girls and two boys.
A recent find was a copy of a marriage certificate of William Blackett - widower and Martha Applequest-spinster on October 28, 1777 in England.
A Schurman book states that the Blackett�s emigrated from Durham, England in 1789, while other sources read that he was sent out by the British Government in 1785 to purchase lumber for the shipyards in England. Written documentation shows William and his family living in Launching, Lot 56 in 1790. Shortly after that William crossed Grand River to Annandale where he purchased 100 acres from John Carpenter who was an agent for Lord Townshend. Blackett�s land ran parallel with a creek and it was soon named Blackett�s Creek which it is still called today.
The Blackett�s were boatbuilders and men of the sea, two of William & John�s boats were called the �Success� and the �Swallow�. Six generations later, many of their male descendants are fishermen. Research shows various spellings of the surname �BLACKETT�, including , BLACKIT and BLACKETTE
