The Descendants of Thomas and Matilda ATKINS

Generation 1

1. THOMAS¹ ATKINS was born in 1809 in Norwich, Norfolk, England (St Michael of Coslany (St. Miles) Parish). He died between 1881-1891 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He married Matilda before 1840. She was born about 1817 in Ireland. She died after 1891 in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Notes for Thomas ATKINS:

Thomas Atkins was born about 1809 in Norwich, England. He was recruited into the British Army in that same town at the age of sixteen years and at the time gave his trade as a Bombasin Dresser. He remained in the 77th Regt of Infantry (East Middlesex Regt) for the next 23 years being stationed for approximately 10 years in Jamaica, 2 in Corfu, 2 in Canada and the remaining time in the British Isles. Thomas was released in 1848 at Montreal as a Private being "unfit for further service" for medical reasons suffering from poor lungs. The family then moved to PEI, Lot 32 taking up 100 acres of land and becoming farmers. Thomas Atkins died sometime between 1881 and 1891.

1. JOHN² ATKINS was born in 1840 in Kent, England. He died (Unknown). John Atkins is found as an eight month old child with Thomas and Matilda in the 1841 England census. There are no other known records of him and it is unknown if he survived into adulthood.
2. ii. GEORGE THOMAS ATKINS was born on 17 Mar 1846 in Jamaica (British West Indies). He died on 02 Jan 1934 in Mount Stewart, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He married Christina Ann MACKENZIE on 04 Jul 1871 in Mount Stewart, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada (St Andrews Roman Catholic Church). She was born in 1852 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She died in 1889 in Mount Stewart, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
3. iii. JANE ATKINS was born in 1855 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She died on 27 Jun 1930 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She married John BRENNAN on 10 Apr 1882 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was born in England. He died before 1901.
4. iv. FREDERICK JOHN ATKINS was born on 20 May 1853 in North River, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died between 1886-1891 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He married Ann CORRIGAN on 21 Aug 1871 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada (St Paul's Anglican Church). She was born on 04 Apr 1840 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She died on 18 Aug 1923 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
5. v. HENRY ATKINS was born on 02 Oct 1859 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died between 1921-1930. He married Annie WILSON on 07 Nov 1882 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada (Zion Church). She was born on 15 May 1862 in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

3. AMBROSE ATKINS was born on 04 Nov 1877 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died on 04 Dec 1901 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Ambrose Atkins was night watchman at the Hillsborough Bridge when it was being built. He disappeared on the night of 4 December, 1901. His boat was found fastened to the derrick scow and his light was still burning when the men went to work the next morning. His body was never found. His body could have been washed out to sea, but it is said he fell into the fresh cement of one of the peirs.
